Papers, Panel, Tutorial Proposals Now Being Sought for 40th Design Automation Conference Technical Program

Electronic Design Industry's Premier Conference Promotes Recent Advances in Research, Engineering

BOULDER, Colo. - October 7, 2002 - A Call for Papers has been issued for the 40th Design Automation Conference (DAC) for regular technical papers, special topic sessions, panels, tutorials and university design contest entries.

The annual conference, which promotes advances in design automation software and hardware for electronic systems, will be held June 2-6, 2003 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.

"DAC is the forum for the electronic design community to exchange information on a variety of subjects," says Luciano Lavagno, Design Methods Co-Chair. "Last year we received a record number of paper and panel submissions, confirming DAC's role in educating and bringing together the EDA community. We are expecting a large number of submissions again this year, as the industry prepares to celebrate DAC's 40th anniversary."

Authors are invited to submit original technical papers describing recent and novel research or engineering developments in all areas of design automation for the Design Methods or Design Tools Tracks, or for Embedded Systems Topics.

The Design Methods track explores innovative methodologies for the design of electronic circuits and systems, as well as creative experiences with design automation in state-of-the-art designs. Submissions for this track are judged on how novel design methodologies and tools inter-relate in their application to real-world design problems.

The Design Tools Track showcases contributions to the research and development of design tools and their supporting algorithms. Innovative modeling, analysis and optimization techniques should be described in detail.

Embedded systems, mixed hardware and software components with limited processing, I/O and storage resources, introduce a host of new system design issues. To focus on these emerging design issues, DAC again will offer an Embedded Systems Track covering tools and methods, as well as case studies.

The paper submissions deadline is Friday, December 6. The submission site is scheduled to open Monday, October 21.

Panel and special sessions play an increasingly important role within the DAC program, and proposals for both will be accepted through Monday, November 4, 2002. That submission site is scheduled to open Friday, October 4.

The Student Design Contest is an invitation to students to submit descriptions of original electronic designs, either circuit level or system level. Two categories of designs are eligible for awards -- operational and conceptual. For operational designs, proof-of-implementation is required. A complete simulation is necessary for conceptual designs. Designs must be part of the student's university studies and must have been completed after June 2001. Selected designs will be presented at the conference. Student Design Contest submissions must be submitted by Friday, December 20, 2002.

Notification of acceptance for all will be made by Friday, February 28, 2003.

For more information, call (303) 530-4333, or visit the DAC website for more specifics on submission requirements. The site is located at: http://www.dac.com.

About DAC DAC is the premier forum for the electronic design industry to exchange information on products, methodologies, and processes. Attended by more than 10,000 developers, designers, researchers, managers, and engineers from leading electronics companies and universities around the world, DAC includes more than 200 exhibitors and offers a robust technical program covering the electronics industry's hottest trends.

The conference is sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery/Special Interest Group on Design Automation (ACM/SIGDA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers/Circuits and Systems Society (IEEE/CAS) and the Electronic Design Automation Consortium (EDA Consortium). For more information, including registration, visit the DAC website at www.dac.com, or contact DAC management at 1-800-321-4573.
